Recruited from
college in 1995 by Burlington Northern Railroad to become a train dispatcher, I was sent to training facilities in Kansas
City, MO., Lincoln, NE, Minniapolis, MN, and North Richland Hills, TX - from June to August of 1995.

After Burlington Northern trained me, I was sent to the the new, state-of-the-art
dispatching center in North Richland Hills, Texas. I had just moved into my new apartment, when Burlington Northern announced
its merger with Santa Fe Railroad. This meant that my job would be taken by an experienced dispatcher from Sante Fe. I began
looking for a new job...
I found a job in North Richland Hills with an international
company called Tecnol. They held patents for the first HEPA masks and for over 100 other type of masks. I began working in
their Orthopedic department. I spent over two years working at Tecnol.

I met many people through this job, especially international
atheletes. Our products were the best and they wanted the best support for their ankles, wrists, and backs. One time I talked
to Bill Cosby who wanted a replacement back support. This was a fun job but I felt that something was missing. I had a great
deal of creativity that I could not use in my job with Tecnol.
Then Kimberly Clark decided it wanted the patents for the Tecnol masks. To get these, they had to
buy the whole company. Once again - my job was going to end.

Every year on the news in DFW, I would hear about the need for teachers. Since I had
taught refugee children - I thought maybe I would make a good teacher at a regular state-run school. I checked out the different
teacher training programs and I liked what I saw at UTA.
